As motorists in the UK we are all
aware that car insurance premiums are expensive, regardless of whether we opt for comprehensive or
to protect our no claims bonus, so we don't need people
committing fraud and pushing the prices up further when we are feeling the pinch on our
wallets.

But the Association of British
Insurers have dubbed the Uk the whiplash capital of Europe, and this is backed by recent statistics
that one in every one hundred and forty insurance claims are for people claiming to have suffered
from whiplash.
In the past we have seen
ambulance chasers and cash for crash incidents pushing up the
costs for the rest of us, not to mention the cost incurred by people supporting fronting schemes,
where parents put themselves down as the main drvier of a car when this really
isn't the case.

The NHS have said that they spend
around eight million pounds per year treating genuine whiplash claims, but the insurance industries
pay out nearly two billion pounds a year on these claims.
Whiplash is an injury caused by the
sharp snapping movement in a car accident, and occurs when the soft tissue around the neck or spine
is stretched or damaged.
Its an easy injury to exaggerate or
even completely fake as it doesn't show up on scans, and therefore it is a prime target for
fraudsters across the country.

James Dalton, from the Association
of British Motorists said 'Despite the statistics I doubt that that the UK has some of the weakest
necks in Europe. Often difficult to diagnose, easy to fake and exaggerate, whiplash is a
fraudster's dream.
The ABI is calling on insurers,
doctors and lawyers to form a partnership to help prevent whiplash and to improve its treatment, as
well as cracking down on fraudulent claim'.

Insurance is expensive, however it is a legal requirement if you own a car,
unless your car is declared off the road (SORN). Look online to ensure that you are getting
the cheapest deal.
