Valves
Identify, Troubleshoot and Cure E.G.R.
Valve problems
What is an E.G.R.
Valve The EGR valve is a way of recycling exhaust ges into the air intake of the
engine.
It's purpose is to reduce levels of pollutant g (ie nitric oxide)
All modern diesel engines have an EGR valve
What happens if the EGR valve is
faulty?
|
|
either the valve
stays closed or stays open |
EGR valve
stays open |
incorrect idle
possible black smoke
poor acceleration
engine will not reach it's top speed
|
EGR valve
stays closed |
incree in Nitric oxides
engine cannot perform properly
fuel consumption may incree
incorrect
idle Poor operation when starting from cold
Increed fuel consumption
Incorrect engine performance
engine management light |
Things to check
|
Oil: Conditon, level (too high) filter
Engine worn eg ring wear , valve wear
turbo problems
crankce breather/pipes/vents
